Turn Calendar Events Into Alarms Automatically (iOS Shortcut for ADHD Brains)

If you live with ADHD, you know how easy it is to forget something — even if it’s in your calendar. A notification alone often isn’t enough to cut through distraction, especially when your executive function is running on fumes. That’s why we built a tool that helps you actually follow through.

At ADHD Canada, we believe in making optimal feel easy. And that’s exactly what this upgraded Calendar to Alarms shortcut does.

Why This Matters for ADHD Productivity

Many people with ADHD struggle with time blindness, low working memory, and inconsistent follow-through. This shortcut helps by translating passive reminders into something more disruptive and effective — an actual iPhone alarm.

By simply adding the word “alarm” to the location field of a calendar event, this automation creates a matching alarm in your Clock app — with the event title as the label.

It’s a subtle but powerful upgrade that helps ADHD brains bridge the gap between intention and action.

New in Version 2: Designed for Real ADHD Needs

This isn’t just a tweak — it’s a full overhaul, designed with the ADHD experience in mind. Here’s what’s new:

🔄 Smarter Alarm Management

  • Automatically deletes outdated alarms.
  • Keeps your Clock app uncluttered.
  • Syncs alarm changes if you edit or delete the event.

⏱️ Custom Alarm Offsets

  • Set a default alarm to go off 5, 10, or 30 minutes before the event.
  • Override the default with a quick entry like alarm -30 (for 30 minutes before).

🕖 All-Day Event Support

  • Assign a fixed time (e.g., 7:30 AM) for alarms related to all-day events.

No more worrying about forgetting a birthday, morning prep for a big meeting, or last-minute errands.

How to Set It Up on Your iPhone

  1. Download the Shortcut
  2. Open the Shortcuts app on your iPhone.
  3. Go to the Automation tab and tap + to create a new automation.
  4. Choose App as the trigger.
  5. Select the Calendar app as the trigger.
  6. Toggle checkboxes to trigger when the app is closed.
  7. Set the automation to “Run Immediately” then tap next.
  8. Add the downloaded shortcut (named “Convert Events to Alarms v2”).

That’s it — you’ve now added calendar automation for ADHD productivity that works silently in the background.
